British history VI
Neolithic and Bronze Ages
Metalwork begins c. 2300 BC
It is thought that contact with the peoples of central Europe may have brought metal and metalwork to Britain. Although initially pure soft copper was used, it was found that by combining tin with the copper, a more durable metal could be made. This was bronze, and it was worked extensively to make tools and weapons. At some sites decorative gold was also worked.
