Iron Age

Ironwork in Britain c. 800 BC - c. 450 BC

It is thought that Celtic-speaking peoples introduced iron to Britain. As they traded with, settled in and married into British society, the skills involved in the working of iron were passed on, beginning with the making of swords and later extending to other weapons and tools. Iron was harder and more malleable than bronze and is still considered to be one of the most useful of all metals.
