Ein Bedingungssatz besteht aus zwei Teilen: einem Nebensatz mit if und einem Hauptsatz. Ein Bedingungssatz drückt aus, was geschieht, wenn eine bestimmte Bedingung erfüllt wird.

If we do this tour, we'll see Snowdonia.

If it rains, we won't see the mountains.

If you come to my party, you'll meet Sue and Pete.

[When you arrive, you'll hear the music out on the street.]

Wie du bereits weißt, stehen Nebensätze mit if  und when im simple present (nicht im will-future), obwohl sich die Sätze auf die Zukunft beziehen. Im Hauptsatz steht meist das will-future; statt des will-future können im Hauptsatz auch stehen:

- ein Modalverb (z.B. can, must, should) + Infinitiv

- ein Imperativ.

If you go to Wales, you must try and see a rugby match.

Sarah is a vegetarian. If she comes for dinner, you shouldn't have meat.

If you need the police in Britain, phone 999.

In allgemein gültigen Aussagen steht auch im Hauptsatz das simple present.

If you add blue to yellow, you get green.
