The simple past

A trip to town

In Cornwall Mark and his new friend Lisa went to town together. Put the text in the right order and copy it.

I  In town the streets were very quiet. They looked for a camera shop and a bookshop, but these shops weren´t open.

II  Then the rain started and it was cold. So they went into a little café.

III  "Oh no!" Lisa said. "Let´s go back to the hotel." So they waited for the bus.

IV  On Thursday afternoon the weather wasn´t very nice. Mark needed some films for his camera, so he went to town on the bus.

V  They waited and waited. Then they asked a man from the town, "Oh", he answered. "The last bus went thirty minutes ago."

VI  Lisa wanted a new book so she went with him. On the bus they talked and laughed a lot.

VII  They were lucky! Who was at the table near the window? Sally and Jenny and their mother. And their car was in front of the café!
