Cutty Sark

The Cutty Sark is one of the fastest and most famous sailing ships ever built. The name comes from a Scottish poem in which a witch is wearing a "cutty sark", the Scottish name for a short shirt. From 1869 to 1895 the ship broke many records for speed while bringing tea and wool to Britain. In 1957, after much restoration work, the Cutty Sark was opened to the public in south-east London. Since then more than 15 million people have visited the ship.
