Old game, new players

 

It has existed since the Civil War. Cowboys made it famous. And now more and more teenagers in the US are playing it - poker. A boom of poker has turned the old card game that grandfathers play into exciting reality TV. Around four million people watch the World Poker Tour series on TV every week. Some teenage poker fans say playing poker is more fun than playing video games. Nick Roe, 15, from Kalamazoo in the US state of Michigan, told The Kalamazoo Gazette, "There's no game like it. You're not just pushing buttons." Teens like Nick play poker with chips. However, many parents worry about teens playing for money. They're afraid it might become a serious problem, like other kinds of teen gambling.
